When we were dating, one day my husband told me that he wanted to marry me and it was as if the floodgates of heaven opened. He received blessing upon blessing and lots of favor. Reading “He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from God” (Proverbs 18:22) made me wonder if I played a role in any of that? My husband and I started our courtship to determine if we should marry and once he professed to me that he believed God wanted us to marry, good things just started happening. I like to call that the “wife-effect”, which speaks to all the ways a wife’s presence can enhance her husband’s life. Biblically, once a man finds his wife, he finds what is good and begins to receive favor from God. Let’s see how this played out in my hubby’s life.
Almost immediately after Rasheen shared that I was “the one”, he was blessed with a new car. Then, he got a new job. Then, he was able to become a first-time homebuyer. And finally, he was elevated in ministry. Sheer coincidence or was there a wife-effect going on? I think it was God’s favor because he had found his good thing. And while those were all material things, there were other areas of life where Rasheen was blessed.
I saw God bless Rasheen in many ways during that season. My husband confided in me that when we got together, I spoke to his heart in ways that no one ever had before. This ushered in something new in his heart and it also blessed me tremendously. God used this process to heal us both from past hurts. I am who I am because of that healing. And he is a better man because of it. It is an illustration of God’s favor in renewing our hearts and one example of “the wife-effect” operating in his life.
Likewise, my husband also shared that my encouragement propelled him to new heights in life. And it wasn’t my carefully constructed words or use of lines from a greeting cards, it was me being me and believing in his gifts and talents. It was one way I knew that he was made for me and I was made for him. His confidence soared and he is a better man because of it. I was his good thing and God was blessing him. The wife-effect.
Finally, I watched God use me to encourage my husband to build closer bonds with some key individuals in his life and these are now foundational relationships for him. These stronger relationships have blessed my husband tremendously throughout the years and he is a better man because of it. It was definitely the wife-effect.
In conclusion, I believe that God definitely uses wives to enhance their husband’s lives and add to value to their being. Once a man finds his wife, the favor of God, whether in the spiritual or natural realm is activated and you can expect to see God things to follow.
