A Father’s Love

Just recently, I observed a beautiful thing. I finally realized just how much my daughter loves her father,my husband Rasheen. She wakes up the in the morning saying, “My daddy, my daddy, my daddy!” and scours the house until she finds him. And in the evening when she arrives home from school, she emphatically marches around the house asking anyone in her path, “Where’s my daddy?” She is always trying to be near her father and she’s practically his shadow. It’s rather cute.

When I think about how their Father-Child relationship has developed over time, it dawned on me that it wasn’t an overnight development. But rather the result of intentional quality time and togetherness. I remember my husband spending hours holding her and smiling at her when she was a newborn. And he took over bathing her when she first arrived because he wanted to bond with her and make certain that she had a strong relationship with her dad. The fruit of all that love invested is paying off now because she truly loves her daddy. Undeniably.

Yesterday, they were outside together, preparing to leave. And he needed to run back in the house for something, so he asked me to watch her outside. But before he could even turn to walk away, her ears perked up, she looked up to see him leaving and she immediately fell in step behind her daddy to follow him in the house. I was like, “Wow! Where her Father goes, she goes. And where her daddy leads, she follows.” It was such a powerful illustration to me and I wondered if God desired us to have that same child-like love towards Him?

This would mean a relationship with our Heavenly Father where we listened for His guidance and quickly followed. It would require a sincere desire to express our love to Him, not through hugs and kisses, but prayer and meditation. It would mean having a heart that sought Him and searched for His presence, like my daughter looks for her daddy. Wouldn’t it be beautiful if our Father-Child relationship with God encapsulated that? Just some food for thought about a Father Love….

I’d love to hear from you. How has our Heavenly Father revealed His love to you? Can you see the parallels between a earthly father and our Father in heaven?
